Tennessee Police Officer Fired for Allegedly Choking Student

A police officer in Knox County, Tenn., was fired Sunday, just one day after he allegedly choked University of Tennessee student Jarod Dotson until he passed out.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office also placed on leave two officers who were standing behind Dotson, 21, while Officer Frank Phillips allegedly strangled him. The incident happened while Dotson's hands were cuffed behind his back

The sheriff's office accused Phillips of using excessive force after he and a team of Knox County officers responded to a backup request; the request was made by University of Tennessee officers after a party they were supervising reportedly became unruly.
