Scientists Introduce 'Chicken From Hell' Dinosaur to World

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch — especially if they're 11 feet long and weigh 600 pounds, like the "chicken from hell" dinosaur scientists introduced to the world on Wednesday.

The dinosaur lived about 66 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period and somewhat resembles a modern-day emu or cassowary — if an emu had 4-inch claws. Its main unappealing characteristics include those treacherous claws, toothless beak and feathered appearance. While the beast's fossils were discovered over a decade ago in the North and South Dakotas, scientists introduced its scientific name and analyzed it fully for the first time in the journal PLOS One on Wednesday.
