Climbers Will Have to Help Take Trash Off Mount Everest Soon

Clean up, clean up, everybody do your share.

New Nepalese regulations will, starting in April, require Mount Everest climbers to bring at least 17.6 pounds of garbage off the mountain with them, the Khaleej Times reports.

Hikers climbing past Mount Everest's base camp on the Nepalese side of the mountain will be expected to abide by the new rule, which has been instated in an effort to eliminate years of trash left on the world's highest peak. That includes oxygen cylinders, human waste and yes, hiker's bodies that have not decomposed because of low temperatures. The garbage climbers carry off the mountain must be in addition to any waste they produce themselves and will need to be turned in to an office at base camp that will be open in April. Read more...
