Winter Olympics Photo of the Day: Skiers Take Flight

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's two Olympic skiers.

Thursday's Photo of the Day gets up close and personal with Germany's Andreas Schauer and Norway's Didrik Bastian as they fly high in the men's freestyle skiing cross 1/8 final.

The action-packed photo, snapped at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, was captured by award-winning Getty photographer Cameron Spencer. Much of the intensity in the image may be attributed to the nature of this competition.

"One of the most exciting events in the latter part of the Olympics is the ski cross," Spencer said. "Four riders head down a hill through myriad turns and jumps all at the same time. They have to get to the bottom of the hill as quickly as possible while navigating the course and avoiding collisions with each other." Read more...
