Don't Call it a Vortex: More Frigid Air Headed for U.S.

The latest forecasts for the end of February into the first week of March show yet another surge of frigid Arctic air entering the Midwest and Northeast from Canada. Just don’t call it Polar Vortex 2 unless you want to pick a fight with meteorologists.

The temperature forecast map from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) paints the entire U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains a a deep shade of blue, meaning way below normal temperatures, from Feb. 25 to March 1. The cold is likely to last at least a week beyond that.

Computer model projections show that temperatures may average as much as 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit colder than average Monday through Friday of next week, with conditions more akin to mid-January than early March. Read more...
