Farmer Captures Gigantic Avalanche Tumbling Down the Italian Alps

While Olympians compete on the snowy slopes in Sochi, Russia for the Winter Olympics, Mother Nature wanted to remind the world of the awe-inspiring, yet deadly potential of snow.

In Italy’s South Tyrol region, residents of the the Passiria Valley witnessed a slow-moving avalanche roll thunderously down a nearby mountain, just barely missing the houses in the valley on Feb. 6. According to the Mirror News, no one was harmed during avalanche, with the 25 locals evacuating the village just in time.

A local farmer captured the video (above) that shows the snow-packed river creeping steadily down the mountain and through the valley. Read more...
