Sometimes move fast and break things ends with broken things. Today news broke that theSan Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), a state agency, has told Google that it must move its infamous mystery barge. The company appears to lack proper authorization to have started the construction. According to the AP Larry Goldzband, the BCDC’sexecutive director, the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) could face fines or “enforcement proceedings” for allowing the project to proceed. A Google spokesperson told TechCrunch “wejust received the letter from the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and we are reviewing it.” TechCrunch has reached out to the BCDC and the TIDA for comment on the AP story. The Google barge became the focus of intense speculation, before it was eventually uncovered that it would likely be a sort of high-tech showroom for Google’s toys. Cool, but hardly James-Bond-Villian enough to hold the public’s attention. Now, the barge will have to find a new home — or the proper permits — to make it to the public stage.
