Government Loosens Limits on What Tech Companies Can Reveal

The U.S. government and a group of top technology companies have reached an agreement on transparency.

The Department of Justice said it will grant the request of top tech companies who had previously petitioned the government for the ability to provide more detailed transparency reports on government requests or orders for user data.

"[President Barack Obama's administration] is acting to allow more detailed disclosures about the number of national security orders and requests issued to communications providers, and the number of customer accounts targeted under those orders and requests including the underlying legal authorities," Attorney General Eric Holder and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said about the agreement in a joint statement.
