FBI Sting Snags Real Life 'Goodfellas'

Goodfellas

The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday arrested five alleged mobsters on charges of racketeering, murder and, in the case of one man, a connection to a 1978 Lufthansa heist at John F. Kennedy International Airport that was immortalized in the Martin Scorsese film, Goodfellas.

Vincent Asaro was charged with taking $1 million in jewelry and $5 million in cash from the airport's Lufthansa terminal. That amount of money is a lot even now, but 36 years ago it was today's equivalent of nearly $17.9 million, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' conversion calculator.
