Ask a Dev: Should Android Developers Use Density-Independent Pixels?

Android devices have "wildly varied pixel-per square inch resolutions," according to Android engineer Sagar Seth. Their screen sizes can be very different, which means a developer could design an app that looks great on one screen — but distorted on another.

To fix that problem, developers can use density-independent pixels to construct their apps; this way, the end product will look consistent across various screen sizes.

Seth says developers should try to test their product on as many devices as possible. However, it's not possible to test an app on everything that runs Android, so developers must determine which phones and tablets are best for product-testing, he added. Read more...
