Airlines Waive Fees for Holiday Travelers Ahead of Winter Storm

It's not Thanksgiving quite yet, but Mother Nature has already served a heaping portion of nasty weather across the United States.

The storm system, which The Weather Channel calls Boreas, is already reportedly responsible for 14 deaths in five states — California, Oklahoma, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico — due mostly to traffic-related accidents. As the storm moves toward the Northeast, it has prompted several, but not all, large airlines to offer holiday travelers the option to alter their reservations without the usual fees.

The weather is "coming at an unfortunate time as a lot of people hit the roads and hit the airports to travel for Thanksgiving," Chris Vaccaro, director of communications for the National Weather Service, told Mashable. Vaccaro said he expects the storm to move up the East coast, bringing heavy rains to the Northeast Tuesday night into Wednesday, and that it should move out by Thanksgiving day. Read more...
