Online Merchants Don't Want You to Pay With Your Credit Card
In the early days of the consumer Web, online merchants had to get over shoppers’ hesitation to commit credit-card data over the Internet. Now, it appears that it’s the merchants who are backing away from online payment forms.
Only 69% of small business owners accept credit- and debit-card payments on their websites, according to a survey of business owners’ attitudes toward technology, published by the National Small Business Association Tuesday. That’s down from 91% in 2010. The survey also said that 47% of respondents use PayPal for online payments, up from 22% in 2010. (Many merchants accept multiple forms of payment online.) Read more...
