NSA Bugged the United Nations

The NSA bugged the United Nations headquarters in New York City, even gaining access to its internal video conferencing system, according to German newspaper Der Speigel.

Der Spiegel says it has seen documents that show the NSA was able to crack the encryption around the internal video conference system used by the United Nations in the summer of 2012. It cites one document as reading, "the traffic gives us the internal video teleconferencing the UN (yay!)." The document further states the number of decrypted communications rose from 12 to 458 in just three weeks.

The documents also indicate the NSA continued to monitor EU communications, even after the delegation moved to a new embassy in September 2012. Read more...
