Obama Says NSA Oversight Worked

President Barack Obama said he thinks the oversight systems put in place to rein in NSA surveillance have worked, despite recent revelations.

In an interview that aired Friday morning with CNN's Chris Cuomo, Obama defended the NSA and the controversial and secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), which is tasked with overseeing the spy agency's surveillance programs

Asked about the NSA, Obama responded by (presumably) referring to the FISC opinion from 2001, published this week. In the opinion, Judge John D. Bates ruled that the NSA had illegally collected U.S. emails and found the program used to collect them unconstitutional. Privacy and civil liberties advocates cited the ruling, obtained after a lengthy FOIA battle by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, as evidence that the NSA spies on Americans. Read more...
