A 3D-printing startup has designed a scale model of Elon Musk's Hyperloop high-speed transportation system that makes the abstract concept more tangible.

Musk, the famed entrepreneur of Telsa Motors and SpaceX, revealed alpha designs for his Hyperloop transport system on Aug. 12. The design conceptualizes a solar-powered system with passenger capsules that would travel in tubes, at speeds as fast as 760 mph. A trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles would, hypothetically, take only 35 minutes.

Ogden, Utah-based startup WhiteClouds said it created its own 3D-printed interpretation of Musk's Hyperloop design within 24 hours. The team used CAD (computer-aided design) software to design digital 3D models based on Musk's alpha design. Then, the modeled parts were printed on three different 3D printers and assembled together. Read more...
