Interactive Map Visualizes 1.2 Million Global Traffic Deaths

More than 1.2 million people are killed on the road each year — and that number is rapidly increasing.

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting launched an interactive map this week that visualizes the reported traffic deaths from 2010. The project is part of a larger effort to draw global attention to this "growing public health crisis."

The project collected data from the World Health Organization's global status report on road safety, which states that driving will become the fifth leading cause of death by 2030 "unless urgent action is taken." Read more...
