An Old-School Petzval Lens for the DSLR Photographer

The Lomography Petzval lens gives "throwback Thursday" a whole new meaning.

The lens, which gives pictures an effect that is not unlike an Instagram filter, takes pictures with sharply focused centers and a blurred background. The design is based on the original from 1840, invented by Joseph Petzval, which was revolutionary for its time and, with a large aperture, was 20 times faster than its main competitor

"We did as much research as we could for the Petzval lens and found that Joseph Petzval invented it in Vienna," Angela Bilog, chief of online marketing and PR at Lomography, told Mashable. "As an Austrian company, we were hooked about this one particular lens ever since." Read more...
