Facebook's App for Feature Phones Tops 100 Million Users

Facebook announced late Sunday that more than 100 million people are now using Facebook for Every Phone, a native app that runs on more than 3,000 feature phone models around the world

While Facebook has generated headlines for revamping its smartphone apps for iPhone and Android, all part of an effort last year to become a truly mobile-first company, it has also been working to improve its accessibility for users in emerging markets.

Facebook for Every Phone launched in 2011 and originally worked with about 2,500 types of feature phones from carries in India, Turkey, Indonesia and elsewhere. The app offers Facebook's basic functions — news feed, photo uploads, sending messages — in a format that works on the phones used in developing countries
