Weathermob App Crowdsources Weather Forecasts

Scrap the teleprompter and the blue screen. You don't need to be on TV to broadcast meteorology anymore. You don't even need to get off the couch to share your thoughts on the forecast. With a few clicks, you can do it all from the comfort of your iPhone.

Weathermob is a free iOS weather app that crowdsources temperature, turning users into reporters who share, discover and discuss the temperature. It's a similar premise to the navigation tool Waze, which uses commuters to get real-time data on traffic. That service is geared to making driving more efficient. Weathermob's founders say the app is set up to give users a more accurate look at hyper-local patterns. And with a community of 100,000 people from 135 countries, the 1.5-year-old Boston startup is building that data with a lot of boots on the ground.
