Watch David Bowie Rock Out in New 'Valentine's Day' Music Video

Although he has been in the Internet spotlight for controversial music videos lately, David Bowie has moved to embrace subtext with a new music video from his recent album The Next Day.

Bowie released the music video for his upcoming single "Valentine's Day" on YouTube and Facebook early Tuesday morning. Compared with some of his previous clips, this video takes a much tamer approach. The video for "The Next Day," the album's titular track, reportedly offended a leading Catholic advocacy group.

The music video for "Valentine's Day" was directed by Indrani and Markus Klinko, who previously collaborated with Bowie on the artwork for 2002’s Heathen. In the clip, 66-year-old Bowie rocks out solo, dressed in all white with a headless red guitar. Cryptic lyrics, a menacing face, blurred slow-mo imagery and subtle shadow puppetry mesh together to create a simple but thought-provoking video.
