Marissa Mayer Is Turning Yahoo Around

Marissa Mayer is coming under some heavy fire on her first anniversary as CEO of Yahoo — criticism, I believe, that is wholly unmerited. Mayer did not promise to turn around the company in 12 months, and those who have asked for as much have unrealistic expectations.

Yahoo, if you recall, was not in a good place when Mayer became CEO last July, and it's hard to argue that Yahoo isn't better now than it was a year ago. In the 12 months prior to her arrival from Google, Yahoo had cycled through four different CEOs and lost many of its top executives, all the while failing to boost its display advertising business or develop new revenue streams. Employees were repeatedly promised that change and innovation were coming to the company, but those promises were never realized.
