Dr. Amar Bose, founder of audio manufacturing company Bose Corporation, died on Friday at his home in Wayland, Mass. He was 83. His death appears to be of natural causes.

A sophisticated engineer with a knack for classical music, Dr. Bose was known for his revolutionary research in acoustical engineering. He built his unique expertise into the company's products, such as concert-hall-quality speakers and .

He founded the company in 1964 while studying electrical engineering at the postgraduate level at MIT.
