Swann Security System Streams DVD-Quality Video to Your Phone

If you're looking to install a do-it-yourself security system in your home, Swann has a new system that can stream widescreen video straight to your smartphone.

Swann announced Tuesday the 4200 Series TruBlue 960H DVR, which supports widescreen, DVD-quality video. That means you can connect the system to an HDTV and see live and recorded video in 960 x 480 resolution at 30 frames per second — functions that could be useful if you're trying to discern faces, license plates or other details.

Swann's 4200 Series includes four-, eight-, nine- or 16-channel versions, and multiple cameras can be monitored and recorded on a split screen.
