Thanks, Instagram: You Gave Me a Panic Attack

Instagram-panic

I was heads-down on my phone this morning when I almost ran into a giant square of plywood with the word 'WALK' and a giant arrow pointing west scribbled in neon orange spray paint

Instagram has taught me that even the most mundane objects — a makeshift sign on a sidewalk construction site, for example — can make the best shots, especially if it has the perfect caption. (For the record, my caption here would have been "Walk this way," but whatever.)

Pre-, I would have just snapped the photo as I walked, causing no disruption to the giant hoard of humans in suits behind me.

However, in a post-Instagram video world, I panicked: Would this be better as a video? I could walk towards the sign and then turn left. I would literally be "walking this way." Damn, that's clever. No, wait — a standalone photo would work because neon colors look amazing with the Lo-Fi filter. (Stop using that filter! You use it way too much. No one believes you're that tan.)
