'New York Times' Begins Offering 3 Free Articles Daily on Mobile Apps

The is poking a few holes through its metered paywall: On Thursday, the paper announced that non-subscribers can read up to three articles per day on its mobile apps, beginning June 27.

That's more generous than the Times' desktop paywall, which limits non-subscribers to 10 free articles per month. It may not be more generous than its previous offering to mobile readers, however. Previously, non-subscribers could access the entire Top News and video sections for free on mobile. Now, non-subscribers are free to read across sections, but content from Top News will count against the three-article limit. Video will remain free and unlimited.
