Google Challenges Secret Court's Gag Orders
In its latest push against secrecy, Google has asked the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) to ease its gag orders and allow the company to publish more data about the requests it receives from the court.
On Tuesday, the company filed a motion (embedded below) before the court, arguing that it has a First Amendment right to publish the total number of requests the court sends it, and the number of users affected by those requests. Additionally, Google argues that it should be allowed to publish the total number of requests because that information is not classified.
