NSA Chief: Surveillance Programs Have Foiled 50 Terrorist Plots

Keith-alexander

The National Security Administration's surveillance programs have helped foil more than 50 terrorist plots across the world, NSA Chief Gen. Keith Alexander said during a Tuesday congressional hearing.

"In recent years these programs, together with other intelligence, have protected the U.S. and our allies from terrorist threats across the globe to include helping prevent potential terrorist events over 50 times since 9/11," Alexander said during testimony to the House Intelligence Committee

Along with deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Sean Joyce, Alexander gave additional details on how the surveillance programs were used in two specific instances: One to prevent an attack targeting the New York Stock Exchange and another to identify a person inside the United States bankrolling terrorist groups in Somalia
