'New York Times' Announces Lower-Priced Digital Subscription

The New York Times Company is planning to introduce several new products and initiatives at the end of this year and early next, including a lower-priced option for digital subscribers, the company announced on Thursday.

The Times Co. did not reveal how much the new option would cost, but described it as "a lower-priced paid product designed to allow access to The Times’s most important and interesting stories in a convenient, media-rich package for consumers looking for an efficient way to stay informed." At a conference earlier this month, Paul Smurl, who oversees the NYTimes.com's paid products, noted that the company was considering a cheaper "$10 or sub $10" price point for digital subscriptions to serve as an "entry-level product."
