Bill Gates: Satellites and GPS Are Fighting Polio

The world is on the brink of its second major disease eradication. Polio may soon meet the fate of smallpox, the last natural case of which was found in 1977. Bill Gates knows that this enormous global health opportunity should not be squandered. And vaccines, he says, are our best shot.

Mashable spoke with Gates prior to the Global Vaccine Summit, where Gates is delivering a keynote address in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

"Vaccines are kind of miraculous," Gates says. "They represent less than 1% of world health spending, yet the benefits are very substantial. We need to invent new vaccines, to get so much coverage that you get eradication." Read more...
