Microsoft has added two-step verification to Microsoft accounts (formerly known as Windows Live ID), the account customers use to sign in to services such as Outlook.com, Messenger and SkyDrive, and to sync settings between devices

Two-step verification (AKA two-factor authentication) is a very important security feature, as it makes it very hard for a third party to access your account even if they've obtained your user name and password

Once you've enabled it, you'll be asked to enter an additional piece of information (besides your user name and password) to access your account, such as a code sent to a phone.
