HTC CEO Said He'll Quit if the One Phone Fails, Report Says

Chou

HTC Chief Executive Peter Chou is so invested in the company's HTC One phone launch that he told executives that he'd step down if the phone fails, accordig to a report.

Chou made the claim during a meeting late last year, according to The Wall Street Journal. The release date for the phone, which was supposed to be available around this time, has been pushed back because of component shortages. HTC, once a rising star in the mobile phone category, began suffering a precipitous decline in sales in the fourth quarter of 2011

Since then, HTC has been knocked out of the first tier of mobile phone makers. The company and investors view the HTC One as its Hail Mary. However, the phone, which sports a 4.7-inch touchscreen and an aluminum body, will have to vie with Samsung's Galaxy S4, which is set to hit the market next month
