The 'Jon Stewart of Egypt' Talks Comedy, Death Threats

Bassem Youssef has one of the most popular shows across Egypt and the Middle East, but he reportedly has death threats against him.

Youssef, who's also worked as a cardiothoracic surgeon, is known as the "Jon Stewart of Egypt" for his satirical TV show. Speaking at the 2013 SXSW conference, Youssef talked about making satire comedy in the midst of a region with so much change.

He says Egypt is still at a turning point in the country right now with the changing political system.

"People maybe don't take criticism as well as they do here (in the United States)," he said.

Youssef said while he attacks people who use religion in politics on his show, he never attacks people's beliefs.
