Is This the $33 Way to Add 3D to Your iPhone?

P3092207

AUSTIN - If watching 2D video on your iPhone isn’t good enough for you, perhaps you’d like to try 3D.

On the streets of SXSW, a little Japanese company called Pied Piper, Inc. was showing what looked like a little black box that turned into a tiny, glasses-free 3D projection screen for an iPhone. Actually, the iPhone (4 or 5) sits inside of the Palm Top Theater and a series of mirrors give the projected image the illusion of 3D.

The picture is small but somewhat impressive, and Pied Piper president Ann Yamamoto told me they’re selling the Palm Top Theater, which was introduced late last year, for $33. On the other hand, it’s really just tiny 3D viewing for one, and like most magic, it’s all done with mirrors.
