8.9 Million Oscars-Related Tweets Sent Sunday

LOS ANGELES -- Viewers of Sunday's 85th Academy Awards generated 8.9 million Oscars-related tweets. Twitter users sent 2.1 million tweets during the red carpet and 6.8 million during the awards show, according to Twitter.

From backstage at Dolby Theatre, I kept my eye on the worldwide trending topics. The musical numbers -- which were left out of the show last year -- returned and didn't disappoint.

Adele's "Skyfall" performance and subsequent win for Best Original Song was Twitter's second and fourth top-tweets-per-minute (TPM) moments with 82,300 TPM and 64,000 TPM.
