Twitter Announces Advertising API


Twitter on Wednesday unveiled its long-awaited advertising API, a move that will likely grow the company's revenues by a wide margin.

The move, which had been reported by Mashable on Tuesday, will let let larger ad agencies create more sophisticated campaigns, a la Facebook. Twitter's current ad platform, introduced in April 2010, lets advertisers and their agency partners upload ads. However, the ads can only be loaded one at a time.

Twitter is launching the API with five partners: Adobe, Hootsuite, Salesforce, SHIFT and TBG Digital.
