Windows Phone 7.8 supports phones without camera buttons: say what now?
One of the most enticing aspects of Windows Phone handsets has been that mandatory two-stage camera button -- squeezing a physical trigger to snap a shot is often preferred to simply tapping the screen. However, it appears that the recent Windows Phone 7.8 rollout points to a future where that design rule is retired. According to a tweeted screenshot obtained by WMPoweruser, the firmware update notes support for "phones without physical camera buttons," which sent chills down our button-loving spines. Still, we hold out hope that support for such a scenario just means there'll be phones without cameras -- presumably for budget hardware or offices that don't allow cam-equipped smartphones. In the meantime, we've reached out to Microsoft for clarification, so don't hit the panic button just yet.
