Because they are necessary to run everything from a DVD player to an Xbox and rarely come with the hardware they're designed to serve, consumers are forced to buy HDMI cables separately. And with that comes some huge price jumps.No, you do not need to get your eyes checked: One HDMI cable costs over $1,000 at Best Buy. And, yes, you can get a similar HDMI cable for under $50 on Monoprice. To put it in perspective, when considering bulk pricing, you can buy 20 cables of the latter for the price of the former. Why one would ever need a thousand-dollar HDMI cable is a mystery, but it's a prime example of how necessary tech can be pushed to astronomical prices.

Be careful what the advertisements (and coupons) tell you -- not all retail chains are created equal. In fact, some of the most popular places to shop for your beloved tech may be sneakily marking up some of your most needed tech products, right under your nose.

The reason for the markups, undoubtedly, is demand. The biggest prices disparities in tech retail happen especially when consumers need a particular accessory or product to make their beloved gadgets work. People need HDMI cables, display adaptors and 3D glasses, therefore, they can be the most painful at checkout.
