Judge Refuses to Drop Charges in Bradley Manning Hearing


The judge presiding over the trial of alleged WikiLeaks source Bradley Manning refused to drop all charges against him and instead awarded him 112 days of sentencing credit that will be taken off an eventual conviction.

Manning's defense had asked the judge during a pretrial hearing in November to drop all charges arguing that his treatment at the Quantico brig amounted to "unlawful pretrial punishment." During the hearing, the defense brought up several witnesses -- including Manning himself -- trying to prove that the authorities held Manning in solitary confinement against the advice of psychiatrists in an attempt to punish him before the trial.
