What Christmas Is Like in a Simulated Mars Colony


For most of us, Christmas is the time we spend with our families, exchange presents and stuff ourselves with good food. For a team in a simulated Mars colony at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah, though, this year's Christmas will be very different.

Six crew members are spending two weeks in the Utah base belonging to The Mars Society, an international non-profit organization preparing for human life on Mars.

Astronomer, educator and science fiction writer Diane Turnshek is a part of the team, and she wrote a blog post on the blog of her friend John Scalzi, giving us a taste of the life in this secluded environment.
