Netflix Bill Passes Congress Without Email Privacy Protections


A new bill that will allow you to automatically share your Netflix viewing history with your Facebook friends cleared Congress just before the holiday break, but only after being stripped of email privacy provisions added by the Senate last month.

The bill serves as an update to the decades-old Video Privacy Protection Act, which prohibits sharing someone's video rental history without their express approval or a police warrant. Under the new bill, social media users would be allowed to opt-in to a system wherein their Netflix watching habits are automatically shared on Facebook and other platforms -- almost like a social reader for video.
