Would Susan Rice Have Been the Next Great Social Diplomat?


Susan Rice has taken her name out of consideration for secretary of state amid political controversy over September attacks against an American consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

If nominated, I am now convinced that the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive and costly - to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities, wrote Rice in a letter to President Obama obtained Thursday by NBC News.

Had Rice been selected by President Barack Obama for the job and her nomination cleared by Congress, she would've replaced the outgoing Secretary Hillary Clinton. Would Rice have kept up her predecessor's legacy of social and tech-savvy diplomacy?
