University of California Logo Change Sparks Online Outrage


One of the largest public university systems in the world changed its logo last week -- to a design created by staff and students at no cost. But the rest of the student body isn't happy about it.

The University of California's logo overhaul sparked a Change.org petition which gained nearly 40,000 signatures in one weekend, as well as a 3-day-old Facebook page with 4,500 Likes.

The 144-year old UC system boasts 10 campuses across the state, a $22.7 billion annual budget, 235,000 students and 189,000 staff members. Until recently, its logo was a glorious old-school shield with a book and the motto "let there be light."
