Is Texting Really in Decline? [POLL]
Are traditional SMS text messages on the way out? They are if you believe a recent research report on the mobile industry by Chetan Sharma Consulting, the first to pinpoint a decline in texting.
But the real story is a little more complicated. Texting isn't dying; it's in transition.
The report, first spotted by CNET, has some grim news for U.S. carriers: "In Q3 2012, for the first time, there was a decline in both the total number of messages as well as the total messaging revenue in the market," Sharma says. (The texting downturn had already taken place outside the U.S.)
