Gogo Speeds Up In-Flight Wi-Fi


Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi

Was the Wi-Fi connection on your last flight a little slow? That's about to change now that Gogo is upgrading its in-flight Wi-Fi service so it's three times as fast.

The new technology is ATG-4, and it's a significant upgrade from Gogo's current ATG (air to ground) connectivity. Previously, the maximum connection speed was 3.1 megabits per second (Mbps), ATG-4 is capable of 9.8Mbps. By comparison, the typical real-world connection speed of a cable modem is about 15Mbps.

Virgin America was the first airline to get the new wireless tech, and Gogo has already installed it on 25 aircraft, including planes from Delta Airlines and US Airways. The faster Wi-Fi will also be coming to some…
