New Jersey Resorts to Voting Via Officials Personal Hotmail


New Jersey, where the elections process has in some places been severely disrupted by Hurricane Sandy, made headlines late last week when it was announced some citizens could cast their ballot via email.

How's that going? Not well.

Here's how the system was supposed to work: New Jersey voters displaced by Sandy could email or fax an application to their county clerk. If approved, they would be reclassified as "overseas voters," the same designation given to military abroad or expats. The voter would receive back a ballot and "waiver of secrecy" form, which they could fill out and return to the clerk.
