Frankenstorm Officially Added to English Lexicon


The word 'Frankenstorm' took the weather news by force late last week as Hurricane Sandy approached the East Coast. The Internet also zoned in on the monster term with memes and parody Twitter accounts that help propel Frankenstorm into everyday language. The number of citations only increased as the massive storm moved closer to landfall, allowing 'Frankenstorm' to pass the minimum criteria to be considered an official English-language word.

Austin-based word trend watches Global Language Monitor announced the distinction on Monday.
