Zynga to Shut Down Multiple Studios, Lay Off 5% of Employees


Zynga is closing multiple offices and laying off 5% of its full-time workforce, Zynga founder and CEO Mark Pincus said in a note sent to employees on Tuesday.

The gaming company is closing its Boston studios and is "proposing closures" of its studios in Japan and the UK, Pincus said. As reported earlier today, Zynga's Austin office is also downsizing significantly. In total, Zynga will shed about 5% of full-time staff -- roughly 170 employees in all.

As part of the reductions, the company will cease investing in 13 of its older games and is "significantly reducing" its investment in The Ville, the Sims-like multiplayer game Zynga unveiled in June.
