Acer Unveils Super-Thin Windows 8 Iconia Tablet

Starting at $500 (without the keyboard dock), the Acer Iconia W510 is a Windows 8 tablet that's impressively light and thin: just 1.27 pounds and 0.35 inch thick. It's powered by Intel's latest Atom processor (letting it run older Windows desktop apps), and packs either 32 or 64GB of storage.

Among Windows 8 tablets, models such as Acer Iconia W510 want to have it both ways: They're full PCs, since they pack an Intel mobile processor, but they also have the lightweight form factor and power efficiency people expect from a tablet.

At least that's the theory -- so far no one has had an opportunity to test any of them yet.

Judging by the specs, the Iconia W510 does very well stacked up against its competitors that also run on Intel's 1.5GHz "Clover Trail" chip. It has 2GB of RAM and a 10.1-inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1,366 x 768 resolution. A layer of durable Gorilla Glass 2 protects the display.
