Google Play App Downloads Hit 25 Billion

Users have downloaded apps from Google Play more than 25 billion times, Google announced.

To celebrate the occasion, Google will offer collections of apps from popular developers such as Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Rovio, Runtastic, Full Fat and others for $0.25.

Users will also be able to choose from collections (of 25, of course) for discounts on movies, books, music albums and magazines, starting later Wednesday.

For comparison, Apple's App Store hit 25 billion downloads in March 2012. This is one of the stats in which Apple's iOS still trumps Android, though with Android now having a significantly higher market share than iOS, it's fairly safe to predict it will catch…
