Amazon Unveils Bold New Line of Kindle Fire HD Tablets


At its live event in Santa Monica, Amazon announced a new addition to its Kindle line, the Kindle Fire HD.

The Kindle Fire HD will be available in two variations: 7" (like the original Kindle Fire) and an 8.9" larger version. Both feature fantastic displays. The 8.9" will have an IPS 1920x1200 resolution screen, which results in 254 pixels per inch. For comparative purposes, Apple's third generation iPad retina display has 264 PPI.

The devices also uses Texas Instruments OMAP 4 platform, which is competing against nVidia's Tegra 3. The device will also have dual stereo speakers and are rated to support Dolby Digital Plus.
